The short version: Benji is a paid app, provided as-is, by one person. Use it kindly, don’t try to break it, and please get medical advice from a doctor — not a bear.
By downloading or using the Benji mobile application (“Benji,” “the app”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
Benji is intended for users 13 years of age and older. If you’re under 13, please don’t use the app. By using Benji, you confirm that you’re at least 13 and that you have the legal capacity to agree to these terms in your jurisdiction.
Benji is a sleep-routine and app-blocking application operated by Kyle Banta as an independent developer (“we,” “us”). It is currently available on Google Play for Android. An iOS version is in development and will become available through the Apple App Store when it ships. The app is provided as-is, with no warranties of any kind. We may add, remove, or change features over time.
Benji is a paid app, sold through Google Play (and, when the iOS version ships, the Apple App Store). The plans available are:
Free trial.The Yearly and Lifetime plans include a 7-day free trial. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, the first charge happens automatically on day 7. The Weekly and Monthly plans do not include a trial.
Auto-renewal. The Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until you cancel. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
Cancellation.You can cancel anytime in your device’s subscription settings:
Uninstalling the app does not cancel an active subscription — you must cancel through the store.
Refunds. Payments are processed by Google Play (and, when shipped, the Apple App Store), and refunds are handled under their respective refund policies. We do not directly process payments, so we cannot issue refunds ourselves; for billing disputes, please contact the store.
Price changes.If we change the price of a recurring plan, we’ll give you notice in the app and through the store at least 30 days before the new price takes effect. The new price applies to your next billing period — you can cancel before then if you don’t want to continue.
Lifetime details. The Lifetime plan is a single charge for ongoing access on the platform you purchased it on, including future updates. The Lifetime price may rise as new features ship, but anyone who has already bought it pays once and keeps access.
Anything you create or write inside Benji — your custom routine steps, your journal entries, the name you give the bear — belongs to you. It also stays on your device (see the Privacy Policy). We don’t read it, claim ownership of it, or have any way to access it.
The Benji app, the bear character and artwork, the code, the copy, and the brand are the intellectual property of Kyle Banta. Your purchase grants you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on your devices. It does not transfer ownership of any of the above, and it does not grant any right to redistribute or modify the app or its assets.
Benji is a productivity and wellbeing tool, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any sleep disorder or health condition. If you’re struggling with sleep, please talk to a healthcare professional.
We do our best to make alarms and the app blocker reliable, but the app depends on your device’s operating system, battery state, and permissions. We can’t guarantee an alarm will always fire, or that the blocker will catch every app. Please don’t use Benji as the only safeguard for time-critical events (catching a flight, taking medication, etc.).
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Benji, including missed alarms, missed messages from blocked apps, or lost sleep.
You can stop using Benji at any time by uninstalling the app. Uninstalling does not cancel an active subscription — see Section 4 for the cancellation steps. We may discontinue the app at any time, though we’ll try to give notice if we do.
If we change these terms in a material way, we’ll notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
